Spectacles
can change the way you look overnight. This section explains what to look
out for when choosing frames and lenses.
Frames in fashion
It is a little understood truism that there's no such thing as the wrong shaped face for glasses, only the wrong shaped glasses for your face! The wide range of styles and colours now available means that there is bound to be a frame that suits you perfectly. Our experienced staff can help in this selection process or, if you prefer, why not bring along a friend to give you advice. Whatever you choose, the good news is that spectacles have never been so fashionable!
The Designer option
Many leading designers now have their own range of fashion frames, some of which are available at our practice. Most of these are produced under licence by the world's leading frame manufacturers, so no compromise is made in quality and, unlike some products sporting top designer labels, designer frames carry a quite modest premium for their name, meaning that they usually offer good value for money.
Spectacle lenses
Until now you might not have given much thought to the design of your spectacle lenses but it's worth remembering that, whilst frames create style, it's your lenses that do all the work! We will recommend the most suitable lenses for your visual requirements.
Single vision lenses
In most cases, this is what the first time spectacle wearer will require. As the phrase suggests, single vision lenses offer a single focal power and correct close-up or distance vision. Typically, single vision lenses would we worn for reading if you are long sighted or for distance if you are short sighted.
Bifocal lenses
There will come a time in your life when you may need glasses to improve both close-up and distance vision. This can be achieved with two separate pairs of spectacles or with one pair of bifocals; effectively two lenses in one which enable you to see clearly at two points, close-up and distant.
Varifocal lenses
Sometimes known as "bifocals without the lines", varifocals are extremely advanced as they achieve complete, uninterrupted vision at all distances and are more aesthetically pleasing than bifocals.
Variations on a theme
Within these categories there are many variations that may, or may not, be important to you and these include "aspheric" and "high index" lenses that are thinner and lighter than normal, wide angle varifocal "atoric" lenses that offer improved reading widths and extended depth reading lenses. We will be happy to advise you which lens best suits your visual requirement.
Spectacle lens enhancements
We offer a range of lens enhancements including anti-reflection lens coatings, light-sensitive lenses that react to light and fixed tint prescription sunglasses.
